On 16th March 2024, NB1092 Isle of Islay is launched to the sea from Cemre Shipyard with a ceremony. After the speeches and plaque presentations, Morag McNeill, chairperson of CMAL was the one to free the vessel.
4 vessels have been ordered by the Scottish Ferry Operator CMAL, for the islands. The first of these 4 vessels, Isle of Islay will serve between Islay and Jura, which is the busiest route of the Clyde and Hebrides network.
It is expected to increase 40% of the freight and vehicle capacity on the Islay and Jura routes while reducing substantially the carbon footprint thanks to its diesel/hybrid propulsion system with new building ferries.
